Mobile Charts

Charts where you are.

Mobile Charts provides a graphical interface to the Google Chart API. It is essentially a wizard that walks you through the options Google provides. Currently this is a small subset of the full API but more features will be added with each update.

Creating a chart.

Give the chart a title. Display the title on the chart if you like.

Give the chart some dimension. The maximum width and height are 1000 pixels. The total area must also remain below 300,000 pixels. Turn your phone sideways for greater precision

Select a chart type. Currently you can choose a line, bar, pie, or radar chart. Most updates will focus on additional chart types.

Give the chart some data. I've tried to make data entry as streamlined as possible (suggestions welcome). Currently there's an issue with negative numbers but I'm looking into it.

Add some color. Version 1.0 is limited to the spectrum and shades of gray. Custom colors will be available in version 1.1.

Give the axes values. Because a chart is meaningless without proper axes. The suggest button sets the maximum to the highest value and the interval to one-fifth of the highest value.

Sharing a chart.

Viewing the chart. Zoom in just like in Safari. Turn your phone sideways to hide the toolbars and take a screenshot.

Open in Safari. In Safari you can touch and hold to save the image to your photo library. This will be incorporated into the application just as soon as I figure out how to do it.

Send link with mail. Opens mail with the chart title as the subject and the link as the body.

Send chart with mail. Opens mail with a custom URL as the body. If the recipient has Mobile Charts installed on their phone this link will add the chart exactly as you created it to their list. A shameless plug to sell more apps or a genuine attempt to foster collaboration? You decide. I'm toying with the idea of adding time stamps and/or signatures.
